User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-GB; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11 Sorry about the unspecific nature of this bug. Using an older version of Quicktime 7 on Windows XP SP2. In Firefox 2.0.0.11. With quicktime presumably as the default content handler for .mp3 and .mov files. When viewing a webpage with this type of contend embedded the Plugin Finder Service alerts me to an update of Quicktime being available. Clicking 'Find', brings up an update failed notification before a Quicktime generated update notification comes up. Before clicking on it to update, it crashes Firefox. I cannot be more technical on this. It happens wherever there is .mp3 content or .mov video files embedded in to the webpage. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Please provide a Talkback ID of that crash : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Talkback
I don't have Talkback installed, is there an extension of it that I can install. I don't much fancy uninstalling and reinstalling.
no, you have to reinstall it but you will not lose your settings and addons if you do.
Please provide an URL, maybe for mp3, where I can test this.
http://media.vibe.com/music/audio/2005/07/01-kanye_west_feat._jay-z-diamonds_are_forever-_remix_.mp3 When loading it will prompt me to update to Quicktime 7.3.1 for Windows before Windows XP generates a Program Not Responding message from Firefox.exe .
(In reply to comment #5) > http://media.vibe.com/music/audio/2005/07/01-kanye_west_feat._jay-z-diamonds_are_forever-_remix_.mp3 Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Win98; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11 QuickTime Plug-in 6.5.1 I'm not asked to update Quicktime, the mp3 starts loading and playing. As I'm on ISDN (64kbit/s) I've got to wait some time until it's loaded completely. No crash on Firefox or Seamonkey.

(In reply to comment #7) > I get a dns failure o the url Service Unavailable - DNS failure The server is temporarily unable to service your request. Please try again later. It did work for me in comment 6 using an older computer now gone. Resolving INCOMPLETE, don't think somebody will find this bug in the 1.8 branch
