Bookmarking a page that is navigated to by a bookmark creates the bookmark but deletes the old bookmark. That is, it is moving the bookmark rather than adding it.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create a new bookmark folder at the top level of the Bookmarks menu:
Bookmarks> Show All Bookmarks
Select Bookmarks Menu folder
Organize> New Folder
name it Mozilla folder 1
close Library window
2. type into browser URI field:
http://www.mozilla.org/
hit return
3. bookmark this page in the Mozilla folder 1:
Bookmarks> Bookmark This Page
select Mozilla folder 1 from the Folder popup
click Done
4. bookmark same page in the Bookmarks Menu:
Bookmarks> Bookmark This Page
select Bookmarks Menu from the Folder popup
5. Observe that nothing happens: pull down Bookmark menu, observe that this page is not at the top level of the Bookmarks Menu (bad)
6. close browser window
7. Bookmarks> Mozilla folder 1, select Mozilla bookmark.
8. bookmark this page in the Bookmarks Menu:
Bookmarks> Bookmark This Page
select Bookmarks Menu from the Folder popup
9. Observe that the page is in the top level of the Bookmarks Menu (good) but the Mozilla Folder 1 is empty (bad).
Actual Results:

Expected Results:  
In steps 5 and 9, should have added bookmark to Bookmarks Menu while leaving it in the Mozilla folder 1.

Confirmed with minefield 
- use Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks instead of show all bookmarks to observe the incorrect results with this build.

Bulk closing all UNCONFIRMED bugs dealing with places that haven't had any bug activity in over 120 days, have no votes, and are not enhancement requests.

If you are still experiencing this issue in Firefox 3.0 or later, please re-open the bug with steps to reproduce (if they were not part of the original comment).

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
