If the website has problems downloading (for instance the bottom message says
"waiting for something"), the browser becomes locked. It will not respond to
"stop download" button. Perhaps if you wait long enough (forever?) it will get
unlocked. I found myself using three finger salute at least four times in one hour. This began happening after the latest update. The frequency of occurence is such, that the browser is nearly useless.
Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Actual Results:
Please see details. You have to find a site that has some problem downloading.
You will see the browser hanging. Try to interrupt download via "stop download"
button. It will not work.
Expected Results:
stop downloading the page when the user asks it to.

Did you see any error messages?
Please give URLs where the problem happens and more detailed Steps to reproduce. Did you also test it in safe-mode? Extension e.g. Google Toolbar or other extensions that "phone home" or overload the browser with scripts can slow down the browser.
See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/Firefox_hangs for other possible causes.

I was able to reproduce this bug five minutes ago, using CNN money site.
I get the last message at the bottom leftmost corner of the browser to read:
"Transferring data from money.cnn.com". The top of the browser shows
page title with (Not Reponding) appended to the right. The browser is hanging,
responds to nothing, can only be killed via the OS route. Yesterday,
"reading from i.cnn.net and i.I.cnn.net was doing it. I am not doing anything
special, just going to www.cnn.com, and choosing the "Business" tab at the top
of page. When this lock happens, attempts to launch a new session fail (dclick
on the shortcut). Once I kill the offending browser via OS, I get an error box
saying that Mozilla is already running, and I must kill it before starting a new
session. Once I acknowledge this and dclck, I get session recovery message. Without the hangup, I can launch multiple browsers without any problems.
This is all I can give you at this time. To my knowledge, I am running plain
Mozilla, I did not try to modify it by installing any extras on it. This is a
pretty standard Dell computer with Windows XP. The problem seem to have started
yesterday, or at least the frequency became noticable. I am accepting automatic
updates on this browser.

I can't reproduce a hang on this site, testing with Firefox 2.0.0.11 or trunk on Windows XP. Maybe related to bug 409757?

This problem **might** be associated with Skype. I installed skype few days
ago, and just noticed that skype installed some sort of shortcut to itself
within mozilla (appearing next to google on the task bar). I removed (de-installed) this shortcut. Will update if the problem goes away reliably.

The problem disappeared after the Skype Mozilla shortcut was removed from the
browser. I do not change the status of this bug, as perhaps someone wants to look
at this skype problem.
