Obviously a result of non-portable web page design. Boo!
Does it work if you spoof as Firefox? I'm betting it does.
Yes -- it does (I should have mentioned).
here's what the page suggests (gack):

Yeah, I figured. I bet it doesn't work with Seamonkey either. (Wanna test that for us?)

I think it's safe to confirm this. Please let the webmaster know if you haven't already, and feel free to point the Starbucks folks to this bug. They should, at minimum, be sniffing for "Gecko" rather than "Firefox".

Uh, not really, but I did it anyway :)

Confirmed; same behavior as above on
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071128 SeaMonkey/1.1.7

I emailed the starbucks webmaster this morning via their web form, but I will follow up with the Gecko tip and the link to this page.
Same for SeaMonkey on Win.

Is this a duplicate of bug 406164? Or perhaps, is this a better problem statement and thus 406164 the duplicate?

It doesn't appear to be, although they're probably both caused by bad sniffing (possibly even the same script on the site). At least in this case, you get a "your browser is old" page, whereas with bug 406164, you get...nothing.
This has gotten worse now, as Sam just discovered by accident.

Without Firefox in the UA, starbucks.com is serving Gecko malformed XHTML, which dies with various XML parser errors/yellow screen of death. (Tested both www.starbucks.com and the URL in the URL field.)
