We're going to have a Telugu localization for Firefox 2. Krishna, do you have any suggestions on changes to the list of search engines, or the Feed readers? What would be a good news feed for Telugu? http://wiki.mozilla.org/Firefox_web_services_guidelines is giving some rationale, most of which should easily apply for Firefox 2 as well. I guess we should be able to reuse some of our experience from other Indian languages, i.e., yahoo.in and ebay.in, and stick to amazon.com. I think that http://te.wikipedia.org/ is good, too, it has some 38000 articles. Mic, any ideas on your side?

hi i have two suggestions can we add a dictionary search plug-in for Telugu, maybe Telugu to English and vice versa or whatever the other major language would be e.g., Hindi? maybe we could use: http://dsal.uchicago.edu/dictionaries/brown/ and is there an RSS feed we could use that provides news or other pertinent information for Telugu? thanks
We can use Brown Dictionary. However, Telugu Wiktionary (te.wiktionary.org) is better. It has Brown's dictionary plus user-added words. For news and information we can use Yahoo! Telugu News feed: http://in.telugu.yahoo.com/rss/news.xml

Veeven - great, thanks for suggestion on te.wiktionary.org great on telugu yahoo news feed. we will need permission from wiktionary. can you obtain that from them?

So, I branched Telugu, unhooking dependency for bug 411097. Any pending changes need to land on the branch, and on trunk to build upon. Mic, do we need a independent permission from wiktionary? It's just another wikimedia foundation project. http://wikimediafoundation.org/wiki/Home
No longer blocks: land-te

No changes are pending. Most of the translation work has done. The http://te.wiktionary.org/ page is under GPL licence. So i think we can use the page. Thanks krishna.

It's actually not a license question for wiktionary, as that license only covers copying their content and putting it elsewhere. We're talking about pounding their servers. That'd be covered by terms of service, which at least the German version doesn't have. Mic?

For other uses of Dictionary, like installation by users on their PCs for spell checking on when filling webforms. we should download entire dictionary from a wiktionary dump and make it available as an add -on. Seems to be the way other language contributors of firefox tried.

Wiki Foundation clarified that no permission is needed for linking Telugu wiktionary as per the enclosed attachment(pdf) file

so it seems we are covered by Wiki Media Foundation general permission and they are now aware of what we're doing vis a vis site traffic (Comment #6) so we are ok with telugu wiktionary from them and for us

Would it be a good idea to use the eBay India plugin for Telugu, as we're doing for the other Indian locales? See bug 430435 for the latest version.

hi, We can go with yahoo.in or http://in.telugu.yahoo.com/ is also there. thanks krishna.

Krishna per your suggestion for comment #12, we'd need to build a plug-in for that and then add the patch. you can likely use the in.yahoo plug in and adjust it to Telugu. i think Pike will help with this

Trying to search on in.telugu.yahoo.com actually got me over to in.yahoo.com, even on a new window, so I just used the standard in.yahoo.com plugin. Together with that the regular eBay.in, and I created plugins for te.wikipedia and te.wiktionary. As discussed with Mic, we're considering wiktionary to be a replacement for answers, so that's falling of the list.
