This is effectively just IE nowadays, isn't it? Or are we breaking on Safari somehow? Safari definitely supports canvas. For IE we should be able to use Google's canvas emulation layer.
I can't run the Safari you're thinking about. I did file the bug with the latest Safari I can run. You're thinking of Safari 3 or something.
