Yes, those are "hexboxes" showing unicode code points in hexadecimal. --> "Layout: Fonts and Text" since decoding seems to be working properly.

Are you sure you have Chinese fonts installed? (That is, it works in, say, Internet Explorer on the same computer?)
Tried in MSIE now and I see boxes there so maybe I've accidentally screwed up my setup. I'm 100% sure I've seen proper Chineese chars in FF 2.0.0.11 before and I've not _knowingly_ changed and/or uninstalled any package/support for Chineese.
Martin, sounds like you're simply missing a needed font on your 2K system. On XP and Vista this is displaying correctly. I'm going to close this out, but if you feel the problem still exists, please re-open the bug.
