This appears to WFM with the latest trunk build on Windows XP. Maybe you have caret browsing enabled? Try pressing f7 to switch on / off.
Caret Browsing ON impacts this problem (F7 toggle). SpaceBar, Page Up, Page Dn have all been involved at one time or another in the past. I think Home has always worked. I reduced the problem for myself with a work-around setting caret browsing to off in user.js, so it always starts with being OFF, but a workaround is not a fix, and accidentally hitting F7 will cause problems. (WFM in Comment #2 means Works For Me)
where is user.js and what change do I make?
user.js does not exist by default you have to create it in your profile, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/User.js_file You would include the following lines, so that if you accidentally hit F7 and and it goes unnoticed, you would be set up without caret browsing in the next session: // Get SpaceBar, PageUp, PageDown to work properly if F7 hit accidentally // see http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/firefox.htm#find user_pref("accessibility.browsewithcaret", false); user_pref("accessibility.warn_on_browsewithcaret", true); user_pref("accessibility.typeaheadfind", false); I would recommend installing the "Open Profile Folder" extension to find and work with your profile. https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/545 I've not had the problem lately, and use of F7 (caret browsing) does not currently mess me up. The extension that exacerbated the problem the most was "MenuX". You might find this helpful in setting up and using Firefox: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/firefox/lessons/intro/fx3_intro.htm
