I changed my settings to "ask" where to save the file when clicked on; however, the continues to be automatically saved to my desktop (despite a restart after changing this setting). I changed the setting to save the file to "My Downloads" folder instead yet Firefox continued to save the file on my desktop without asking even though I specifically changed the setting to do so. This seems important as any link I click on while on the web could be automatically saved... Thank you for looking into this.

1.Click on a .doc file link with the Firefox browser 
2.Settings within this path: Firefox>Preferences>Main>Downloads are not followed.

This is happening in the test version of Firefox 3.1 "Minefield" All builds.

How to fix:

about:config

search "download" (w/o quotes)

change browser.download.folderList = 0

change browser.download.lastDir = 1

This seemed to have fix it for now in 3.1b2pre Minefield
This bug was reported using Firefox 3.0 or older, which is no longer supported. The bug has also not been changed in over 500 days and is still in UNCO.
Reporter, please retest this bug in Firefox 3.6.10 or later using a fresh profile, http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/managing+profiles. If you still see this problem, please update the bug. If you no longer see the bug, please set the resolution to RESOLVED, WORKSFORME.
