Andreas & Christian, is this blocking the release? It's inconsistent UI behavior.

Outlook shows the same behavior. Using the mini month in the Outlook task mode switch also back to calendar mode.
I discussed this issue with Christian and we decided that this bug is not a show stopper - back to 0.8-.

Christian, what's the intended behaviour? "The task list should show the tasks of
the selected day" doesn't sound too intuitive to me, too.

I tend to agree, that filtering makes not too much sense. From my point of view it makes sense to remove the task mode mini month, if the Today Pane is available for Task mode.

will this be done for 0.9 ? if yes I suppose this bug could be solved in that way?

Works for me using Lightning 1.0pre (20090304) with Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1b3pre) Gecko/20090304 Shredder/3.0b3pre.
Clicking the minimonth in the left pane doesn't switch to the calendar tab. Actually it does nothing except proving an overview about the current/selected month and the free/busy state. Users that don't need the minimonth can disable it via the View menu.
