I would like to propose the development of a method for users to mark content within a website for reference. I envision this functionality resides in a GUI window under the tab, but above the website content. A user could select a tool to from the GUI to make a selection from within the website content and then use a menu from within the GUI to define a meaning for the selected content. For example, the user could click on a "make selection" tool and then marquee select a few sentences of text from within a website. The marquee selection creates a "highlight" over the selected web content. The user then would be able to choose the selection type such as "Personal" and make notes about the selected content and choose from certain "color-keys" which help them identify the type of reference they've made (ex: Personal - "Send this to uncle Rob", etc.). As well as specific comments about marked content, general website notes could be made within the GUI area. This would be helpful when comparing products from several online vendors (ex: "This site offers the lowest price, but does not give me the free incentive").
