View → Stop, and Tools → Error Console have completely different functions, so their icons should not be the same.
The icon used for Errors in the Error Console itself would be a better visual metaphor than the Stop sign.

We don't really have an icon for the Error Console yet, the native Stop icon is most suitable right now.

The Stop icon is strongly associated with actions that stop or cancel something, so I don't think it's at all suitable for the menu item that opens the Error Console.
Recycling an unrelated visual metaphor is worse (I suggest) than having no icon for that menu item.
There are already several other items in the Tools menu without icons, and the Tango Project recommends that “only the most frequently used menu items should feature an icon”. ( http://tango.freedesktop.org/Tango_Icon_Theme_Guidelines#Extra_Small )
If the icon will be replaced before the final release, that's fine; I'm just worried that we'll end up misusing visual metaphors in the final release.
As an analogy, I think we would avoid labelling two unrelated menu items with the same *text* as it would cause confusion.
