User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071127 Firefox/2.0.0.11 Build Identifier: email simply does not send or receive I have been forced to a hotmail account on Thunderbird. Spent three hours with various sympatico help people yesterday to no avail. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open thunderbird 2. attempt to open message or "get mail" 3. Actual Results: error message "sympatico has timed out" (sic) Expected Results: I would get my messages The frustration level is at temper tantrum stage. I'm a 57 year old mother. I have over come many things. I hate hotmail and I love Thunderbird. This is the first time i have had any issues. I am not a techie at all. I need help or a "fix" that can be applied by the techie daughter. Also had conversation with associate this morning, she too had major issues on thursday
Since you say you are not alone to have had problems, it does sound like there could be some problem with on the server side. A fairly common cause for these kind of problems is misconfigured/misbehaving antivirus and/or software firewalls, so I'd check the settings there, and also try disabling them to test.
Nola: Did you try to send mails aor do you get also a timeout message if you try that ? Do you have a firewall installed on your server ?
Also, from the dupe, that you can send webmail via firefox in now way means that there couldn't be a server/network problem. Webmail is a totally different story.
It neither sends nor receives. I first noticed when it refused to "get Mail" on Friday morning. Then I tried to send with equal frustration. I operate Norton Professional. The firewall is updated. I use Windows XP. I have been able to use use Firefox from the get go. Occasionally prior to this complete shut down I would get a timeout message in Tbird. I would open Firefox and that would fix the timeout. Now the timeout appears to be permanent in Firefox. thanks for the heads up on the additional comments reply
This looks like a firewall issue. When Firefox and also thunderbird gets an update, the Firefox.exe and Thunderbird.exe are different from the old version you had on your Hard Disk. The Firewall itself now starts to block this changed application files. Please read this forum post and look if that helps: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?p=2589767#2589767
Reporter the issue is still present? Can you reply to comment #6?
