Just downloaded the late 6-5-20 build from FTP sweetlou by clicking on NetscapeSetup.exe. I received an error dialog for error number 1010 during installation.
seeing this with build 2000060609 on win95 on Winnt- I get other strange behavior-bogus error messages 1. after choosing install directory (new, clean) it tells me there is an old install in that directory/ 2nd attempt told me I did not have permission to use that directory 2. error message -225 extraction failed marking blocker

Win32 (2000-06-06-09 M16) I got this error message in today's build when installing. Error occured during installation 87.
Yikes, this looks like an M16 blocker. adding leger to cc: list
Summary: Error 1010 with 6-5-20 build → Error 1010 when installing 6-5-20 build
Putting on [dogfood+][M16Blocker] radar.

this is also true for mozilla installer
Nothing has changed in the xpinstall directory since the last working install except some trivial package list changes which would not cause these effects -- any problems there would only show up *after* the install when mozilla proper was launched. The release team should double-check the build environment that produced these packages -- did you guys get a new machine, or are there changes building on a branch? Since Sean is out until tomorrow I'll reassign it while that's being checked.

yes, it's a new machine, i'm trying a build on the old machine to verify that it's a tools problem.
Status: NEW → ASSIGNED
Installer on build 2000060709 is working
ssu isolated this as a problem with multi-threaded perl (somehow, environment variables set inside the perl script aren't getting passed to the processes spawned by it); trying to revert to an older version of perl.
removing smoketest blocker status.
Severity: blocker → major

fixed by going back to previous build system. will apply perl fix before upgrading to multi-processor build system if thats what is needed to fix this.
