User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9b4pre) Gecko/2008021009 Firefox/3.0b4pre
Build Identifier:

Starting with the 2008020903 nightly, it is impossible to enter accents and tilde as such or in combination with other letters like à, í, ñ in the mail compose window, both plain text and HTML (it is still possible to copy&paste them from elsewhere, but it is not the proper way to write emails). Entering accents and tilde into the subject line or into the search form in Thunderbird works.

Tested with a german keyboard with the [de] layout on Ubuntu 7.10.

Last good: 2008020803. Bug 387579??

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a message compose window.
2. Try to type any combined letters like îíàñ or accents and tilde alone ´`^~ into the text field.
Actual Results:
Keys that should produce accents and tilde do nothing. You get iian instead of îíàñ.

Expected Results:
All accent keys work.

For me, only the combined letters don't work. Accents and tilde can be typed in. Own debug-builds of SM 2.0 on linux. To the error-window - hm, in this timeframe my builds are not usebable because of empty windows in MailNews. ;)
Masayuki-san: could this be from bug 415026, or do I know even less about it than the little I think I know?

probably, yes.

If this is a regression of bug 415026, this will be fixed by bug 416551.

Supplement: i am using
        Option "XkbLayout" "de"
        Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
on gentoo.
Harmut: could you please try backing out attachment 301239 [details] [diff] [review], to see if that makes your build work correctly again?

Done. Yes, after backing out this attachment the error is gone.

Can you fix this bug by the patch of bug bug 416551?

First re-applied attachment 301239 [details] [diff] [review] and then patched with Patch v3.0 of bug 416551. Then the error is indeed fixed. :)
