GTK+ offers a GtkFileChooserButton widget, which is used to ask for folders. Attached is a screen shot of both Minefield an The GIMP, which uses GtkFileChooserButton.

The GIMP screen shot, note that Swap folder drop down looks just like Temporary folder when not pressed.
