User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9b3) Gecko/2008020513 Firefox/3.0b3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; de; rv:1.9b3) Gecko/2008020513 Firefox/3.0b3 Some websites change their title name when there's something new. Like Google Reader or Gmail. Those titles look like Google Reader (X) Google Mail - Inbox (X) - account.name@gmail.com where the (X) marks the number of unread articles or mails. Browsing those sites will add more and more entries to the smart bookmarks. It looks like Firefox treats sites, which add a dynamic parts to their title, as different websites. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Visit a couple of times gmail or google reader 2. Watch your smart bookmarks Actual Results: You'll get multiple entries for those sites inside the smart bookmarks. Expected Results: There should be only on entry. So instead of Google Reader (4) Google Reader (7) Google Reader (4) ... there should be only Google Reader inside this list.

I get the same behavior. In fact, in my "most visited" "smart bookmarks", four of the 10 slots are for the Google "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" and 2 of them are for Digg. In other words, 6 slots taken by 2 entries.
This problem also appears on windows, and this bug is really making me nervous. Please help! :)
I guess the real cause is not the title changing, but rather it's actually a different URL. Notice Reader keeps different URLs, like: https://www.google.com/reader/view/#stream/user%2F...%2Flabel%2Fsomelabel For every different page you can visit (tags, folders, special views). They do it to allow back/forward navigation and bookmarking, but I have to agree the effect on browser history is particularly annoying, especially because the titles aren't very informative (Gmail uses the same technique, but they actually have a more positive side effect of allowing you to search messages by subject).
Is this a dupe of bug 428690?
(In reply to comment #5) > Is this a dupe of bug 428690? no, but could be partly (most visited query) fixed by bug 420446

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h". In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows: Tools | Message Filters Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New" Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h Change the action to "Delete Message". Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top. Click OK. Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter. Gerv
