User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: 2.0.0.9 i use thunderbird 1.5.* without any problems with IMAP account configured, when i installed and run 2.0.0.x version ( i checked 2.0.0.1 and latest 2.0.0.9 with same results) and after a while thunderbird.exe started memory leak (after 1 hour - mem/vmsize=60/60 MB after 10 hours 300/500 MB...) i don't use any plugins, i had made fresh installation into separate folder and memory leak appears just after first run .. when i fall back to 1.5.0.14 there is no memory leak (with same IMAP account)... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.install thunderbird 2.0.0.x (any version) 2.wait a while 3.memory leak

rastilav, please read https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/page.cgi?id=fields.html#bug_severity - this bug does not fit definition of blocker see Bug 370203 comment 4 and http://kb.mozillazine.org/Performance_-_Thunderbird rastilav Do either of the above help? Do you occasionally have network or connection failures?

Summary: memory leak → High memory usage after a few hours going to version 2.x
Version: unspecified → 2.0
sorry for bad severity setting i had checked above faq but this seems not match my problem i often compact my inbox and other folders strange is that problem appears only with 2.x thunderbird and 1.5.x works ok with same account settings (i always return to 1.5 when i fall into memory leaks with 2.x, now i'm still on 1.5.x) no i'm on 100MB lan and there are no occasional network failures..
problem solved by turning off javascript engine by config variable javascript.enabled - i only wonder why so secure thinderbird has enabled this by default and no option to turn it off in options menu !!!

Because so secure mailnews uses javascript.allow.mailnews, disabled by default with no option to turn it on. Having just one wouldn't work out very well for SeaMonkey, since most people want JavaScript in their browser, and not in their mail. So changing javascript.enabled shouldn't have any effect at all on Thunderbird (other than coincidence, or forcing a write of your prefs file).
Resolution: FIXED → WORKSFORME
i'm afraid that i didn't 100% understand your post - in my case turning off this param leads to no memory leaks - and i tried 2.0.x from very first version up to 2.0.0.14, all the same memory leaks, so i wonder why this happens because firefox also uses js engine without any probs
rastislav, see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Javascript.allow.mailnews http://kb.mozillazine.org/Javascript.enabled reopening, because you shouldn't have a problem with Javascript.enabled=true In thunderbird, is your Javascript.allow.mailnews=false? Does memory usage go up only when viewing messages? Or does it also go up when system is "unattended" and just (presumably) receiving messages? xref bug 409737, bug 329755

hello, i have Javascript.allow.mailnews=false memory usage get up even i did nothing - it just raises and raises in steps os several MBs per hour next day tb has 250 MB in RAM and 750 in VM my account is connected to imap server and i had no problems with 1.5.x versions - only with ALL sub-versions of 2.x, yesterday i had first set problem disapears immediately after adding & setting config.trim_on_minimize to true (followed by restart of tb), which didn't help (memory still raises), but after i setup Javascript.enabled=false, problem was solved immediately after tb restart and ran till today with normal memory consumption - around 30-40 MB
do you have: - RSS accounts? - news accounts?
no
consult: see comment 6, comment 7 - thoughts??
rastislav, this is likely fixed in nightly builds. please test and let us know thte results. backup your profile before testing ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/nightly/latest-trunk/

=> incomplete additional information would be useful, even if you no longer see the problem you might also try the latest beta http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/early_releases/
