User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20060414
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.7.13) Gecko/20060414

I have a new webpage, with videos, and when in Mozilla browser, the videos won't play (Microsoft Media Player). So, I am informed that I probably don't have the most current plugins for the the media player. So I go to Mozilla support, I look at the instructions for downloading the plug in. I follow all th einstructions, download the plug in, install the plug in. But when I check to see if it is installed, it isn't. And I still can't play the videos. So, I have tried this multiple times, removing the installed plug in each time, and despite the fact that my computer reports that it is installed, and I have gone through the installation procedures, the "test installation" fails, as does trying to view the video in my website.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open mozilla
2.go to my webpage lifeskills4parents.com where videos are supposed to play as soon as sign opens (and they do in Internet Explorer)
3.videos fail to play
Actual Results:
Go to support page, frequently asked questions, Microsoft Media Player. Click on download plug ins from Firefox or from Port 25. Click download. After downloaded, go to C drive to which I downloaded it, click on exe file. Takes me through the installation process. Go back to support page, frequently asked questions, Microsoft Media Player, click on test installation. Fails - says it isn't installed. Tried it multiple times, never installed; browser won't play videos on the website

Expected Results:
plug in should be installed; test should indicate that it is installed, and videos on the website should play from the Firefox browser.
wfm with a current Seamonkey trunk build.
Do you see the media plugin in "about:plugins" ?
Karen,

You're using a 2 year old Mozilla browser. We no longer provide support for old browser versions like that.
Just download and install Seamonkey 1.1.8 or Firefox 2.0.0.12:
http://www.mozilla.org/products/

As written, your bug report is not entirely clear for which product you are reporting this bug. Please clarify the browser name, browser version and browser build number for which you are filing this bug.

> the videos won't play (Microsoft Media Player).

Which version of Windows Media Player? This is important information to know...
You should download and install the latest available version of WMP for Windows XP which is version 11:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/download/AllDownloads.aspx

> downloading the plug in. I follow all th einstructions, download the plug in, install the plug in.

Which plug-in? What's the file name of that plug-in?
I went to
http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Windows+Media+Player
and then to
http://port25.technet.com/pages/windows-media-player-firefox-plugin-download.aspx
but that
wmpfirefoxplugin.exe (312 KB)
is clearly for Firefox, but not for Mozilla Suite.

>Click on download plug ins from Firefox or from Port 25.
That plug-in is for Firefox and for Windows Media Player 11.

Overall, please try to be as specific as possible (in an helpful manner) with filenames, version numbers, precise URLs. Otherwise, we can not follow your steps, we can not reproduce the problems since we don't know exactly the steps you followed, and eventually we can't assist you or help you.
E.g.:
"Go to support page, frequently asked questions, Microsoft Media Player."
I have no idea which support page you are referring to; there may be dozens and dozens of webpages about FAQ, support and WMP.
> wfm with a current Seamonkey trunk build.

Mathias, I went to
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/wmp11.html
with Seamonkey 2.0a1pre rv:1.9b4 build 2008022002 and the WMP11 did not load
"Error - the plugin has not loaded". application/x-ms-wmp or x-ms-wmp must be listed as a MIME type in the about:plugins page.
OTOH, the video movie at
http://www.gtalbot.org/BugzillaSection/Bug374183PlayingVideoWithWindowsMediaPlayer11.html
loaded and played (MIME type is video/x-ms-wmv).
That's it! You have that line
application/x-ms-wmp np-mswmp * Yes
in that http://pastebin.mozilla.org/338871
and this is what the page
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/wmp11.html
will test, will verify:
<object id="wmp_p" data="ffwmv11.php" type="application/x-ms-wmp" width="320" height="320" >
If you use
Seamonkey 2.0a1pre rv:1.9b4 build 2008022002
without any modification on that
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/testpages/wmp11.html
testpage, the plugin will not load and the movie will not play because the mime type is not supported but my Bug374183PlayingVideoWithWindowsMediaPlayer11.html will load WMP11 and the movie should play.

Anyway, Karen, if you could answer the questions in comments 1 and 2 ... I'm pretty sure this bug is just a support issue, not a real bug.
No answer, no reply for over a month.
Karen, everything suggests there is no bug here but rather a support issue which can be solved by Knowledge Base articles or support files mentioned in this bug.
