Best live bookmark would be:
http://gaelport.com/rss.php

General news in Irish, often stories related to the Irish language.

In terms of a dictionary plugin - I created a mycroft plugin for the site www.focal.ie which is a gov't sponsored terminology database.

You'll need to convert the engine to "MozSearch" format if you want to ship it by default. Shouldn't be too hard - see http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Creating_MozSearch_plugins for details, and feel free to ask if you have any questions.

OK, I did the conversion and will attach the new file to the bug. Do I need to set a flag for this to be reviewed before checkin?

Sure, you can put it in my review queue from the "attachment details" page, by selecting "?" in the "review" dropdown and entering my email address.

Kevin,
I've tried calling over to Gaelport but not had any luck. Assuming you're in Ireland can you try connecting with them directly and getting an email of someone whom I could ask permission from? (I've been on their site but couldn't find an email address for a main contact).
Thanks

re comment #9, actually I finally reached someone there (Breed sp?) She has passed me to their marketing manager Kevin Eleos. I've email him and copied you. Let's see where we go from here. I'll post back with permission

Comment 11

I don't know Kevin Eleos - do you mean Kevin De Barra? "eolas" means "information" in Irish (not "Gaelic" btw) - so "eolas@gaelport.com" is likely just the site-wide email address. I'll follow up with them, thanks.

Comment 12

most likely it is Kevin De Barra - the woman I spoke with gave me his first name and that email address. If you can follow up with them, that'd be great. I did send a fax and an email in hopes that our request was understood. I look forward to what you find out. Getting written permission either in this bug or in response to our email is ideal. thanks.

I have approval for addition of the gaelport.com RSS feed now from Karl Chadwick. He works for Gravitate which is the company in Ireland running the Gaelport web site.

What do I do next?

Search plugin for focal.ie site.

Grabbing the review request from Gavin here.

Using a Param for the key instead of putting it into the template would be better, like

<Url type="text/html" method="GET" template="http://focal.ie/Search.aspx>
  <Param name="term" value="{searchTerms}"/>
</Url>

Mic, we'd still need a permission from focal.ie, too, right? We might give them a chance to review the search keys, too.

Kevin, could you create a patch with the modified plugin cvs added (though not checked in yet) and a changed list.txt? cvs -z3 diff -uN would do that, and then request review from me again? Gavin was stepping in while I was away, so it's me again.

Attaching patch as requested by Axel. Regarding permissions, I've already been in touch with focal.ie about the plugin, indeed their technical lead created the icon for me. If you need more than this I can have someone send Mic and email.

getting an email or even a post directly in this bug indicating we have focal.ie permission to ship their search plug-in with Firefox 3 Gaelic would be great. thanks.

correcting comment #18 - that should say "Firefox 3 Irish" (not Gaelic) sorry bout that.
Kevin and I are working on that, will post back once we have permission

Kevin, I think the landing of focal.ie slipped in with your last landing. I don't think it's actually part of the build yet, as I see only the plugin and not the list.txt, but still.

Comment 21

Rats, I'm sorry about that. I changed my scripts to only commit in browser/chrome but then forgot and did a manual "cvs commit ." at the top level for those last couple changes.
Hopefully we'll have an answer soon from focal.ie and maybe it will be a moot point.

Good morning,

I am the technology manager of the focal.ie website, hosted and managed by Dublin City University (DCU). I confirm that you have our permission to ship the focal.ie search plugin, created by Kevin Scannell, with Mozilla Firefox. In fact, it will be an honour if you do.

Thank you,
Michal

Currently Irish has the en-US defaults for protocol handlers in the tree, that is, 30boxes(webcal) and yahoo mail(mailto). Is that OK?

We don't have any localized analogues of these sites, as far as I know, so these are fine.
(Reporter)

Comment 27

ok by me. all locales (if they have nothing else) should take en-US defaults to demonstrate the feature and then for 3.0.1 we can look for other altneratives. in the case of Irish i guess we'll use gmail and google calendar when they land and sounds like we can keep 30 boxes (webcal) and yahoo mail too.

This bug is marked as fixed, but I don't see the gaelport.com RSS feed appearing in the latest builds we're litmus testing. I assume the stories are just supposed to appear in Live Bookmarks or should I be looking somewhere else?

kevin, axel usually lands those changes in one bug for our IT for a server side change. so he'll add this to that bug, i would guess he'll file that within 24 hours or so.

cvs diff -uN adding wikipedia-ga-IE.xml plugin

There is an Irish wikipedia. I created the wikipedia-ga-IE.xml file just changing the English wikipedia plugin - replaced "en" with "ga" in three places and translated "the free encyclopedia" in the title. I assume the search suggestion URI will work just as well for ga.wikipedia.org?

r=me with the following change: the ShortName should be "Vicipéid (ga)", that matches the wikipedia site and thus users won't be offered the plugin they have again.

Check-in comment blurb applies.
