User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: 2.0.0.9 New messages come in to the INBOX on the server and the inbox folder shows that a new message has arrived. However, the new message CANNOT be found in the inbox message list. The new message IS found when looking in my search folder (it even says that the message is in the INBOX). Rebuilding the index of the inbox finds the message but the problem continues with the next new message. Inbox is selected for offline use. Downloading messages does not the solve the problem. Compacting does not solve the problem. Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
(Q1) View related issue? What is View/Messages & View/Threads setting of your INBOX? Different View/Messages & View/Threads setting is used for other mail box(including search folders)? "Click other mail box(==close Inbox) then click Inbox(==open Inbox again)" will display the unlisted new mail in thread pane? (Q2) Inbox's .msf update issue, or partial/unsuccessful download issue? Since "Inbox is selected for offline-use", search folder perhaps rebuilds his .msf from mail data file for Inbox. And "rebuild index" of Inbox is a recovery procedure(this enforces re-download of mail headers when IMAP). Following can be a workaround? 1. Move the mail(found in search folder only) to an IMAP mail folder of non offline-use option. 2. Click other folder than Inbox(close Inbox) 3. Move back the mail to Inbox 4. Click Inbox(re-open Inbox==re-sync) > Rebuilding the index of the inbox finds the message > but the problem continues with the next new message. It sounds that problem is re-creatable. Can you get IMAP protocol log? See meta Bug 402793 Comment #1 for getting protocol log.
Any chance we can get protocol log from you?

(In reply to comment #0) > The new message IS found when looking in my search folder "Search Online" is specified for the "search folder"? If yes, your problem may be same problem as Bug 414723. If problem of Bug 414723 occurred, and if "Search Online" was set for "search folder", phenomenon of comment #0 would occur.
