User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: 2.0.0.9 (20071031) I got 9 different smtp servers defined in thunderbird. The default was a gmail account from the beginning. When writing a message I can select one of the other smtps (which are not default) but then when sending, thunderbird still tries to use the default smtp! Therefore deleted and changed the default smtp. It still has no effect, because thunderbird has "problems reaching the smtp". I double checked on all the smtp server settings, they are a-okay! Thunderbird still shows and tries to use the DELETED default smtp as the default and selected when writing a new message!!! Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open a new mail window and write a message. 2.Select one of multiple smtp servers (which is not the default) 3.Click the send button Actual Results: Thunderbird can't connect to the (correctly setup) smtp (which is not the default one). Only the default one works! Before clicking send the DELETED default smtp is still in the list and "available" and of COURSE set as default (though being deleted through the settings!!!) Expected Results: It shouldn't show the deleted smtp. It should be able to connect to the correct smtp which is selected when writing the mail addons: talkback sync kolab spamato4thunderbird scroll to key provider for google calendar lightning foxytunes fox clocks folder account enigmail adblock plus [un]read all of these addons are on latest version. I also had this problem WITHOUT ALL OF THEM!
hope this gets fixed somehow... don't want to have to delete thunderbird and install it all over again... :(
Version: unspecified → 2.0
What do you mean by: > 2.Select one of multiple smtp servers (which is not the default) The smtp server depends on which identity you choose to use.
sorry, got the german version here. what i meant by multiple smtp servers are actually different mail profiles. it's just named in another way in the german version... sorry about that. well anyways, when i choose one of the profiles (which are not the default one in that case) thunderbird can't connect. i actually deleted the default profile and tried to replace it by one of the other profiles... but the old default is still selected when writing a new message! i'm very sure i got all the smtp data correct and also the default smtp for each profile is assigned correctly. still thunderbird won't send mails over the other profiles... right now not all anymore... :( it's funny, because I've send stuff with some of the profiles before... and now suddenly for no real reason it doesnt work anymore :/ I've double checked my internet connection... i got a new IP several times already... restarted the router... nothing :/
To David Runge(bug opener): Read following MozillaZine Knowledge base articles first, please. - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Mail_concepts - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Account_settings - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_identities_per_e-mail_account - http://kb.mozillazine.org/Multiple_SMTP_servers_%28Thunderbird%29 > Actual Results: > Thunderbird can't connect to the (correctly setup) smtp (which is not the > default one). Only the default one works! Really correctly setup'ed? No confusion by you in SMTP related settings? No problem in SMTP server setting? (server name, port, userid, password etc.)? (A) When identity's outgoing server(smtp): choice is "Use default server", SMTP server which is set as "Default" is used in mail sendig. (B) When identity's outgoing server(smtp): choice is specific SMTP server, the chosen SMTP server is used in mail sending. Case (A)? If main identity's SMTP choice, possibly following problem(already reported). When main(first) identity of an account, SMTP choice via "Manage Identities"/Edit doesn't work. It should be set via primary "Account Settings" panel. > the DELETED default smtp is still in the list and "available" You did define multiple SMTP entries for an SMTP_server/user_id, didn't you? - SMTP server definition won't reject multiple definition for a SMTP server. - So, you can easily be confused, if you defined multiple entries. (AFAIK, independent bug for this issue is not opened yet.) Tb 2.0 has capability to put "Label" in a SMTP definition. - Account Settings / Outgoing Server(SMTP) / Edit - Put text in "Description" field Add description to each SMTP entry, and check all identity's SMTP choice again.
Marking as WFM. Maybe there should be a small text under Outgoing Server (SMTP) pointing to the possibility to select SMTP in each identity.
