Opened the Bookmarks sidebar (Ctrl-B).
Dragged three loose bookmarks from the Bookmarks Toolbar into the Unfiled Bookmarks folder.
Got annoyed at having to open my bookmarks to view the Unfiled Bookmarks and attempted to drag-move the Unfiled Bookmarks folder onto the visible Toolbar (at the top of the browser window). This did not create a folder for Unfiled Bookmarks on the visible Toolbar.
So I tried dragging the Unfiled Bookmarks folder into the Bookmarks Toolbar folder.
This created a folder called Unfiled Bookmarks in the Bookmarks Toolbar folder, but I can't recall if it showed up on the visible Toolbar.
The new folder in the Bookmarks Toolbar did not contain any of the bookmarks from the Unfiled Bookmarks folder.
Unfortunately, I can't recall exactly what I did after that. I think I tried to drag the new (empty) folder down to the same level as the Unfiled Bookmarks folder or I created a new folder called Unfiled Bookmarks on the same level as the already-existing Unfiled Bookmarks folder. In any case, I know it wouldn't let me delete either the new empty Unfiled Bookmarks folder or the old existing Unfiled Bookmarks folder from the right-click menu and I ended up with two "Unfiled Bookmarks" folders on the same level as the Bookmarks Menu and Bookmarks Toolbar.
I closed the Bookmarks sidepanel and tried going through Bookmarks > Show All Bookmarks. Now, *both* of my Unfiled Bookmarks (new empty and old existing) are gone. No amount of Ctrl-Z undos have brought them back.
I have not tried restarting the browser yet or anything else as I simply wanted to submit the bug while my memory was still fresh.
Reproducible: Didn't try
Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.
Restarting the browser brought the lost bookmarks back, under a folder with no name labeled "no title" (possibly as a result of the Undo steps).

I was able to reproduce some of this behavior - I was able to drag the unfiled bookmarks and drop it in various places which created a new folder called "unfiled bookmarks" but left the original "unfiled bookmarks" folder in it's original place.
one more thing: The newly created dulicates of unfiled bookmarks can not be deleted :(

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".
In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.
Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
