User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8.1.12) Gecko/20080201 Firefox/2.0.0.12 In Netscape 6.0 undr MAc OS 9.2.2 it was possible to make Netscape use Graphic Converter Http://www.lemkesoft.com/ . Whenever I clicked on a jpeg, Netscape would use Graphic Converter to download the jpeg. And I could direct the download to a desktop folder. So each and every jpeg I clicked on was immediately opended in GC and also downloaded withouy any additional keystrokes or right clicking or doing a save as. Firefox opens a new window via a tab and displays the jpeg. So I added the mime type JPEG via mime editor, but it will not show up in the extensions manage window. How can I get Firefox to use GC for jpeg, jpg, jpe files? Why doesn't the added mime type show up? Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Because Firefox can handle jpep files internal and you can't override internal handled mime-types. If we allow to set a mime-type for jpeg images you Firefox had to launch the helper application for every jped image on a site. I don't think that this bug is valid, it's by design.
No. Netscape does not use the helper application to display the images. It uses its internal code to display. Only when I want to downlaod the jpeg does GC become active and then it only opens once during a browser session. The helper GC is not used by Netscape unless I want ot download the image.
