According to Alex's mockup : https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=299530
The dropdown icon is missing in new site button

Reproducible: Always
Blocks: 414183
Version: unspecified → Trunk
Suggesting wontfix.
Since there's a dropdown icon for the search bar button, I think there should be a dropdown icon for site button for consistency reasons even if it's not a menu.
If there's no dropdown icon, nothing indicates that this is a button.

The icon is shifted 2 pixels to the left, and the button is 4 pixels larger to make room for the dropdown icon (I used the same values as the search bar button).

Could you explain what you mean by "consistency reasons"? The search button allows you to drop down a list of items from which a user may choose a search engine. The site identity button shows more information about the current connection to the web site.

Should we also have drop down markers on bookmark toolbar folders for consistency? Should we have a drop down on the star button for consistency?

I'll accept arguments that the site button doesn't look "pushable" enough, and isn't offering a button-like affordance, but I can't really see a consistency argument here, as drop-down indicators are used to show that there is a set of options to choose from, not that the resulting UI will appear beneath the button.

Then we need to make it look more like a button.
I discussed about that with alex :

I think you're right, and the site button should really look like a button.

I think this has more to do with visual consistency as opposed to interactive consistency. The difference between menu items and the more information button seems a little subtle. Overall I don't have much of a case. Making the button have more of a button affordance sounds like a good idea.
