Build Identifier: Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 (20080227) Lightning 0.8pre 05-Mar-2008 01:58 PST (build 2008030501)

Bug Description:
Binary package hint: Thunderbird, Lightning, GData Provider

Description:

Updated to the Lightning 05-Mar-2008 01:58 PST 0.8pre build. When Thunderbird restarted, I received an error that my remote Google calender could not load. I was not able to access it in the list to remove it. I did not have it selected and showing previously. Every time I restart Thunderbird I receive the same error message. There does not seem to be anyway to remove the Google calendar link and get rid of the error. I checked in

Error Message: (NOTE: I replaced my address with xxxx..)

An error was encountered preparing the calendar located at http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/xxxxxxxxxx@gmail.com/private-xxxxxxxxxxxx/basic.ics for use. It will not be available.
Error Number: 2152333318
Description: TypeError: Components.classes["@mozilla.org/calendar/calendar;1?type=" + type] has no properties

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Add a Google Calendar using the Google Calendar (Gdata) provider.
2. Install the latest Lightning Nightly Build
3. Restart Thunderbird

Actual Results:
I checked for a new release of Lightning as I do daily. I received the message that there was a new version available. I selected to install it. The new version downloaded and installed correctly. Thunderbird shutdown successfully. Once Thunderbird restarted I received the error message. Every time I restart Thunderbird I receive the same error message. The Google Calendar does not appear in the Calendar selection pane along the left side of the Calendar view. I looked through the Calendar Properties and Lightning Options in the Tool Options, and there is no place to remove a calendar that is causing errors. As a result, every time I restart Thunderbird I receive the same error message, and am unable to remove it.

I had just started Thunderbird a few moments before I upgraded to the Lightning 05-Mar-2008 build and did not receive and errors pertaining to the Google Calendar.

Expected Results:
When I checked for a new release of lightning, as I do daily, I received the message that there was a new version available. I selected to install it. I expected the new version to download and install and Thunderbird to shutdown and restart successfully with the new version of Lightning loaded. This has been the normal behavior.

Application and System Information:

Thunderbird version 2.0.0.12 (20080227)
Lightning 0.8pre 05-Mar-2008 01:58 PST (build 2008030501)
Lightning Nightly Updater (Unofficial) 0.5.080209 (Has not changed)

confirmed on Windows XP as well.
Is the gdata provider extension enabled? Please check in the Add-on Manager. It might be that the gdata provider extension currently only supports Lightning 0.8pre but not yet Lightning 0.8 and therefore is disabled.
Stefan, your diagnosis is correct! Modifying the limit in the provider solves the problem
And I don't know if this is related, but TB+Lightning now takes some seconds at 100% CPU to start, since the multilingual builds (after I updated the google provider install.rdf).
Is there an updated version that I could help test? Another part of this bug, and this may be part of lightning itself, is that when there is an error in the calendar, it is hidden from view, and there seems to be no visible way to remove the problem calendar at all or access it. Thus every time Thunderbird / Lightning restarts the error message is displayed. There should be a way, in preferences, to access the calendars that are loaded at startup and disable it, either by unselecting it, or deleting it.
You'll have to wait until Philipp uploads a new nightly build to <http://gdataprovider.mozdev.org/> that supports Sunbird/Lightning 0.8.
Summary: Error preparing Google calendar after install of Lightning nightly build. Unable to access calendar. → Error preparing Google calendar; unable to access calendar; not compatible with 0.8
Severity: critical → normal
OS: Linux → All
Hardware: PC → All
Has any action been taken on this bug? I am still receiving the error message every time I start up Thunderbird and am unable to get rid or it or remove the Google calender. I even tried to uninstall the Gdata provider but am still receiving the error. If this Error pops up everytime a user starts up Thunderbird, and they are unable to access ther google calendar at all, or uninstall it to to stop the error dialog from popping up then I would say this is a critical bug, or at least high priority. It is interfearing with the users ability to get work done. And preventing the user from accessing their data.

If this will not be fixed soon, is there a back end way to get rid of the google calendar, so that I can get rid of the error dialog that pops up EVERYTIME I start Thunderbird?

Thanks,
Jared.

btw.. Klint mentioned that he was able to confirm this, and the bug is still marked unconfirmed.
Jared, while waiting for a new release or nightly for the Gdata provider, you can download the current provider nightly, open it with 7-zip for instance, edit the install.rdf file in it and replace the upper limit for the lightning and sunbird sections from 0.8pre to 0.8 (<em:maxVersion>0.8</em:maxVersion>)
Then, install it and reactivate it... it'll work again.
There are some outstanding reviews, I will spin a new nightly as soon as the important ones are checked in.
