one icon in statusbar looks like want to escape, but it indicates, that statusbar is two pixels too small, even to have connection with vertical scrollbar.

I know! It's not too small. It's filed with white.

I'd be psyched to get rid of the gear icon entirely and move to a normal menu, but that's just me.

I doubt this would be good... Currently statusbar can display URLs. Splitting menu from statusbar is making use of more useful space. Bad.
