I tried to use sunbird as a default app to open the calendar file ics exported by one website. But sunbird opened without this new entry.
It should have displayed the "New Event" dialog with information prefilled from the ics file.

Sunbird doesn't offer this functionality yet.
Use the command line switch "-subscribe" followed by the full qualified file:// URL to create a new calendar from the .ics file.

Phillipp was already thinking about this, as you can see in bug 359807 comment #51 and his comments in the patch: lines 149-154 in calCommandLineHandler.js, attachment #338838 [details] [diff] [review].
Maybe you could comment there and drive him to handle this when solving bug 359807.
