But sunbird opened without this new entry. It should have displayed the "New Event" dialog with information prefilled from the ics file. Reproducible: Always
Sunbird doesn't offer this functionality yet. Use the command line switch "-subscribe" followed by the full qualified file:// URL to create a new calendar from the .ics file.

Phillipp was already thinking about this, as you can see in bug 359807 comment #51 and his comments in the patch: lines 149-154 in calCommandLineHandler.js, attachment #338838 [details] [diff] [review]. Maybe you could comment there and drive him to handle this when solving bug 359807. Setting dependency until then...
