The URL bar for the commerical version should have this tooltip: "Enter search term, keyword, or web address" ------- Additional Comments From John Gable 2000-05-26 15:53 ------- Nominated nsbeta2 Though text in a tooltip may seem minor, it isn't. The discoverability of searching and using keywords from the URL-bar is a top priority for the Netscape Search business and user behavior, and we plan to run usability tests in late June/ early July in this area to verify if it is effective. ------- Additional Comments From John Gable 2000-05-26 15:54 ------- Is bugscpae still reserved just for AIM and Activiation? IF so, we will move this bug to bugzilla and mark it confidential. ------- Additional Comments From Vera Horiuchi 2000-05-26 15:57 ------- I thought Bugscape is for anything that's Netscape confidential. I'll query Jan. ------- Additional Comments From Jan Leger 2000-05-29 22:06 ------- Putting on the nsbeta2 radar...changing milestone from MFuture to M17. ------- Additional Comments From John Gable 2000-06-01 19:55 ------- reassigning to Don so we will implement this important UI change ------- Additional Comments From don@netscape.com 2000-06-02 13:59 ------- Why is this bug in bugscape? This should be in bugzilla. What's Netscape-specific about this bug? ------- Additional Comments From Jan Leger 2000-06-02 15:01 ------- Vera...he's right...I should have told you Bugzilla...if indeed non-proprietary...can you move this to Bugzilla? sorry ------- Additional Comments From don@netscape.com 2000-06-09 11:45 ------- Can someone move this into Bugzilla? I son't know how to do that (other than copying by hand, and that seems ugly).
Done.

Hmmmm, Ben sez we can't do this until someone else hooks up tooltips to text widgets.
Who is that someone else? Should we re-assign this, or create a new bug, or something? We should try to move this along...
see dependency (42729). Mike Pinkerton has the bug.
Move to M18. Can't be fixed any sooner than bug #42729, which is also M18.
Target Milestone: M17 → M18
Removing nsbeta2+ for reconsideration. Don't believe we need to hold beta 2 for a tooltip. Nominating for beta3

Ben, that defies all logic and breaks the 'process'. If the bug this depends on was 'futured' then that decision needs to be reconsidered. A triage team looked at this and decided that it needed to be done for beta3. A team looked at bug 42729 and decided it didn't need to be done, but maybe they failed to consider this bug? Maybe the team that +'d this bug didn't consider how difficult implementing bug 42729 might be. Either way, this shouldn't just be brushed off. The question is, can bug 42729 be implemented just enough to enable resolution of this nsbeta3+ bug? cc'ing pink.
nav triage team: nsbeta3+ again. For real.

all my work is done. when the backend supports this, you'll see your URLbar tooltip. deprioritising because of this.

PDT is downgrading to [nsbeta3-], this is not critical to PR3 and RTM.

On Linux (classic skin) and NT (modern skin) I see a tooltip saying "Location and search field". The text is different from what was requested originally.
Yes, the tooltip wording should be: "Enter search term, keyword, or web address" That's the point of this tooltip -- to tell people what to do with this field. Reopening.

Blake -- I'm reassigning this to you in hopes that you can attach a patch and fix this. It's very simple -- we need to change the wording of this tooltip: current: "Location and search field" should be: "Enter search term, keyword, or web address" The string is in this file: /xpfe/browser/resources/locale/en.US/navigator.dtd (line 293) I don't have the mozilla tree checked out and it's getting late... we need a patch attached to this bug right away or it will be minus'd. I know I don't have time, but thought I'd toss it your way in case you do. In any event, thanks!

Personanlly I think this tooltip is a bit annoying (if someone really doesn't know what that textbox is for, I don't think they deserve to use our browser ;-) But, patch attached as requested.

Don, per the nav triage team's earlier comment that this change is "very important for usability and Netcenter Search team", and Vera's urgency to get this in, would it be possible to + this? Just needs an easy sr=
