Has this been fixed with the patch in bug 424165?
20080320_1606_firefox-3.0b5pre.en-US.win32.zip

bug 424165 was fixed, but not fixed this bug.
Keywords: qawanted
Try the next hourly build, it should be fixed in there.

I can't reproduce the crash on any of the sites you have listed.
Also, given my most recent patch I see no way for this function to crash anymore. It certainly would have crashed before...
do you have Japanese font ?

no problem with English etc. (not Japanese) site here.
I have quite a few Japanese fonts and can render all the pages you were having problems with fine.
I'm not seeing this running with any of the sites you mentioned. I'm using the 20080320_2248 tinderbox win32 build. Do you still see it with a more recent build? I'm running with Win XP SP2 JA with normal Japanese fonts (MS Office, etc.).

If you can still reproduce it, it would be helpful to explain the exact steps to reproduce (if that's possible). Also, since this may be caused due to specific fonts on your system, it would help to log font matching operations. To do this, run through the following steps:

1. Install the build
2. Open up a command shell and change dir to the build directory
3. Enter these commands

set NSPR_LOG_MODULES=winfonts:5
set NSPR_LOG_FILE=winfonts.log

4. Start Firefox from the command line:

./firefox.exe -no-remote

This should dump out info on the exact font matching character by character. If you still crash, attach the logfile as that will probably give us a clue as to where on the page it crashed.

Another suggestion:

tested and seems to be fixed.

I used 3rd party OS Theme, with "tahoma" font.
now back to Default OS Theme, and no crash for the moment.

I continue testing it for a while.
Which 3rd party OS Theme did you use? Can it be downloaded somewhere?

cannot now.
I have .rar (about 3.19MB), if possible, will upload it.

and no crash now.

status: FIXED/WORKSFORMME/DUPE ?
another Theme.
http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Themes/Royale-Theme-for-WinXP.shtml

1) install and change.
2) open above site in (background) tab. switch/click that tab.
3) Crash
This is still worksforme, using today's trunk build.
With the above site you mean: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Themes/Royale-Theme-for-WinXP.shtml
right?

What we really need is a way to reproduce this crash or else this bug isn't going anywhere.
Does the crashing depend on some particular font you have installed or something?

this is a Theme site, not a crash site.

1) you need to install above Theme, then use this Theme.
2) open above site.
3) Crash for me.

not crash for you ?

I heard someone have a same/similar crash with above Theme.
so I tested with this Theme.
Crash for me with this Theme, but not Crash with Default Windows OS Theme.
from https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=424165#c22 ,

maybe "Tahoma" font cause this.
Theme I used before use "Tahoma" font, see comment#12

I have no idea "Royal Theme" uses "Tahoma" font or not.
20080321_2150_firefox-3.0b5pre.en-US.win32.zip

still Crash with 3rd party Windows OS Thmeme.
I've download the Royal Theme from http://www.softpedia.com/get/Desktop-Enhancements/Themes/Royale-Theme-for-WinXP.shtml

Installed it.

and I'm running Build identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-IN; rv:1.9b5pre) Gecko/2008032204 Minefield/3.0b5pre

I loaded the pages in comment 2 and used this set up for several other things this morning.

I don't see any crashes yet.

Anything else I can try?
Thanks.

Possibly no problem with non Japanese Windows.
if someone can contact with Japanese dev, tell him/her to check this bug ?
Masayuki, can you reproduce this crash with the mentioned theme? Or do you know perhaps other Japanese people who can test this?
can we please stop adding comments to bugs marked as dups? also, this is not showing up on crash-stats anymore.
20080322_1826_firefox-3.0b5pre.en-US.win32.zip

no crash with 3rd party Windows OS Theme.

maybe fixed.
I suspect you were suffering from bug 424566 then.
