There should be a way to automatically transfer keywords to tags. Many users are use to the old way of adding keywords but now with the greatness of tags...transforming them automatically would be a huge plus.
Keywords and tags are totally different things. Only one bookmark can have a given keyword, and they're used as a shortcut to name a specific bookmark. Tags are most useful if multiple bookmarks have them, and they're used to organize bookmarks. I don't think it would make sense to transform keywords to tags like you're suggesting.
Maybe the guy from the forums can post his exact reasoning. I filed on behalf of him but he did say he left some feedback in hendrix about it, so maybe there is a better argument for this in that.
Hi,

I'm the one who started this issue on the forums.

I know that keywords and tags are totally different things, but Firefox2 did not support tagging. As a result, many people - including me - used the keywords field as a tag field with the help of "OpenBook" extension which forces the keywords field to appear in the dialog box of adding bookmarks.

This was very practical in searching for a bookmark within my huge list of 2500+ bookmarks with the help of search extensions such as "Advanced Bookmark Search" or "Enhanced Bookmark Search".

Now, my problem is:
- How can I transform my current bookmark keywords in FF2 to tags in FF3?
- Another issue is that my keywords are only separated by spaces and not commas as required for FF3 tags, so how can I add commas to all of them without a lot of manual work? (other people might be using / or ; or , or any special character)
If you got yourself into this situation with an extension, you can probably get yourself out of it with an extension ;) Maybe the author of OpenBook will be willing to write one, or make it a feature of a new version of OpenBook?
I agree--many of us used keywords as tags.

Actually (and unfortunately) multiple bookmarks can have the same keyword, but of course only 1 is brought when the keyword is used.

at this stage i suggest to leave this to an extension, we are far past FX2.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body contains places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.

Yeah, we're long past when this might have been useful, but I don't think it was worth our cycles at the time.
