any ideas? we should be able to provide a (possibly) better livebookmark; also sometimes dictionary search engine's are good
Hi Mic,

for now I have no recommendation.
The default web services are fully ok for mn locale.

Thank you Gen for nice URLs.

Because some of them haven't RSS entry, it is impossible to add them in Live Bookmark.
Mic, How much time I have ? I've sent emails to other news web sites asking for RSS link. I know several good links for news portal but they haven't RSS link. So I would like to wait one day. If there is no answer then the following links are appropriate for the Live Bookmark:

http://www.zuuniimedee.mn/
http://www.unen.mn/

You're welcome :)

Can you tell us the difference between unen and zuuniidedee? I believe unen is the Mongolian-state-owned media outlet (like BBC in UK or NHK in JP or Xinhua in CN?)
Gen - I apologize I didn't copy you on this bug to begin with (I will make sure I do so on all locales in your region going forward)

Natsagdorj - you have time like +1 week or so.

Yes, you are right. The zuuniimedee.mn is relative young newcomer to media outlet.

of the two, do you or the community have a stronger recommendation? usually public media is a good unbiased source of news but some countries are different in this regard ;-) thoughts?
we will need to get permission from whomever we choose to be sure they are ok to receive our traffic. I can do this or you can when we're ready.
The mongolian wikipedia has a good 1000 articles, I don't think that's that useful, so I'm nodding off on adding en.wikipedia.org instead. Mic, do you agree?
Natsagdorj
any conclusion on the RSS feed, it seemed like we were leaning towards unen.mn do you agree? if so I will contact them for permission

for wikipedia, 1000 articles is low but i'm also of the mind that the user can easily get to en.wikipedia so may still be of value. Natsagdorj or Gen - can you give me your recommendations and we'll go from there.
Mic,
still I have no answer from other sites so I agree with the choice of unen.mn.

For wikipedia, I agree also with you that any time users can switch to en.wikipedia, so mn.wikipedia.org can be instead.
Natsagdorj - thanks - can you get me a contact email from the unen.mn website. i'm having some trouble finding that.

for mn.wikipedia.org - you just need to submit a patch for that for Axel to review. Axel how do you think about the mn vs en version of wikipedia?
Mic,

unen@mongolnet.mn is the contact email address of unen.mn.
thanks, sent them an email, will post permission when i receive it.
that email did not work, can you find me another address please :)
per comment #10 and 11 - reconfirming, we are ok to use mn.wikipedia.org - this is now reflected in our requirements document as well

Mic,

I'm sorry, "unen@mongol.net" is the right address. This time I've checked it.

Re wikipedia en-vs-mn, how about both?

I'm taking that we're using en-US defaults for protocol handlers, right? yahoo mail for mailto and 30 boxes for webcal, which is already in the tree.
Alias: fx3-wsl10n-mn
I personally think both wikipedia en and mn is too much. If someone is going to use wikipedia mn, it's one click to en from there.

The comparison to protocol handlers is not quite apples to apples because Yahoo! only has one email service (except Japan which is a separate company and therefore a separate, non-integrated service with the Yahoo! dot com webmail service.)
Gen, I'm not sure what comparison for webmail you're talking about.

And I don't buy the single click for wikipedia. See comment 9, with just a 1000 articles, you're not going to get that many hits. Going from http://mn.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Search?search=firefox&go=%D0%AF%D0%B2%D0%B0%D1%85 to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Firefox isn't a single click, AFAICT.
it's not one click away true (i think about 2 clicks). i'd still go for one version - mongolian for wikipedia. it may encourage users to add content to wikipedia in their language and it does provide a decent user experience and some content.
Natsagdorj - ok by you, then please request review and lets close this bug :)

i've sent email to mongol.net for permission, i'll add that here when i get it. given they are a news server with public site and this is our first mongolian build i don't think we're at risk of crashing their servers. so i'd opt for going ahead. ok by you pike?
I'm fine with mn.wikipedia.org. Natsagdorj, please create a patch to add that, if you agree, and request review from me?

I don't think we should add a feed without consent. We might not have that many users in Mongolian, but we shipped it for 2.0.0.x. And I'm a little snobby here, but I could imagine that the server architecture of a Mongolian news site looks slightly different than the one of the BBC, too. Let's wait for their consent, we still have weeks for that.
Sorry for delay.

I'm agree with Mic that it will encourage users to add content to wikipedia.

So, now it is time for the dumb questions :)
Axel, for which file I should create a patch ?
Is this browser/searchplugins/list.txt or region.properties file ?

And how do I request review ? Until today I've closed may be one or two bugs in my life :). So I have almost no experience with bugzilla ( I remember, once you have instructed me how to do but it was long time ago.. sorry for the trouble :( )
sooooooo......

We're set about protocol and content handlers, you're using en-US settings, so region.properties is safe.

Feed handlers are linked to from bookmarks.html, but they link to a locale-dependent redirect on mozilla.com, so changing the feed url is done by changing a server side setting on our side. No patch required.

Search is all (*) in browser/searchplugins. Task: Replace en.wikipedia.org with mn.wikipedia.org. So, first, we need a plugin for the latter, for which a good name will be wikipedia-mn.org. You should create this by following what we do for en-US closely, that one is at http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla/source/browser/locales/en-US/searchplugins/wikipedia.xml. Use that as a template, and change the Urls accordingly, and use "Википедиа (mn)" as ShortName. That matches what the site sends, so Firefox will detect that it already has the search plugin.
So, now you have the plugin in mn/browser/searchplugins/wikipedia-mn.xml, and to get it picked up, you replace the wikipedia with wikipedia-mn in list.txt.

To create the patch, do, in browser/searchplugins
cvs add wikipedia-mn.xml
cvs -z3 diff -uN

and attach the output here, and mark it as patch, there's a checkbox for that. To request review on that, set the "Review" flag to '?', and the requestee to my bugzilla ID.

(*) The search ordering stuff is in region.properties, too, but that's changed rarely.
not sure i'll be awake so late tonight to see you online ;) please add this as soon as you can to be sure to make deadlines we mentioned in groups: http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.dev.l10n/browse_thread/thread/b63a08274488dee5/2a79df4e183c1255#2a79df4e183c1255

patch file for wikipedia-mn

r=me, please check in with a comment referencing this bug and my review, something like "bug 425120, adding mn.wikipedia.org, r=l10n@mozilla.com" would work.
