User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10_5_2; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.13 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1 Safari/525.13
Build Identifier:

With the latest version of Weave, Firefox freezes and/or crashes on sync operations

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Create new profile
2. Open bookmarks dialog and drop all bookmarks (menu and toolbar) and the history, close dialog.
3. Install latest version of Weave (paste the xpi URL) and restart Fx.
4. Open Fx pref (at this point I have to use my own DAV server)
5. Set up Weave (sign in + initial transfer), sync manually, close pref dialog.
6. Import default Safari bookmarks.html
7. Open Fx pref and sync manually. At this point, Firefox freezes -> Force Quit
8. Restart Fx, start new session.
9. Open Fx pref, reset server lock, manually sync. Firefox freezes again -> Force Quit.
10. At this point, if you delete a folder (e.g. "Bookmarks Toolbar") and sync, it will work. Then delete another folder (e.g. "Bookmarks Menu"), Firefox will most probably crash...
11. Delete the "Bookmark Menu" folder.
Actual Results:
Freeze + Crash

Is this still reproducible? Weave may be triggering the crash, but as Weave has no binary components (yet), it is unlikely to be Weave's fault directly.

Summary: Firefox freezes and/or crashes on sync operations [@ PL_ArenaAllocate] → Firefox freezes and/or crashes on sync operations [@ PL_ArenaAllocate - PORT_ArenaAlloc_Util]
Based on the stack trace above, NSPR's arena free list has been corrupted.

I do NOT suspect this is an NSPR bug.
All the elements of that list are allocated from the heap.
I'd guess heap corruption, or possibly some code outside NSPR is continuing
to use a PLArena after freeing it to the arena free list.

Another log, this time Firefox stopped responding for a few minutes but it then regained stability.

Its happening in Windows XP too. My sync its being compromised on my XP machine. In Vista machine its nothing happening yet.
My FF didnt back when this freeze occurred.
I'll attach a error log from weave.
Im also using all of features in this addon. Trying to let it like Google Browser Sync.
Removing from 0.2. We don't know what the cause is here. I suspect this is a different bug from other weave freezing bugs (e.g. bug 441907).
No longer blocks: 433919
Target Milestone: 0.2 → --
I'm tempted to close this as worksforme unless someone has some STR. I have never seen it, and it's almost certainly not a Weave bug (it was filed before Weave even had a binary component).

If anyone is still seeing this or wants to take it, speak up.
It has only appeared for me since I upgraded to 0.2.5, and I have only placed that version on one of my machines, XP Pro, fully patched except for KB951748, which will be added once I get my copies of Zone Alarm upgraded, running on a dual core Pentium at 3.0GHz and with 2GB RAM.

Firefox 3.0.1 freezes quite often. When I looked at Task Manager, it showed FF taking 50% of the CPU cycles on one core. I removed one add-on that I was not using any longer, still had the problem. I disabled the add-ons one by one until I got to Weave with no improvement. I disabled Weave, and the problem disappeared. I re-enabled the other add-ons and the problem stayed away. When I re-enabled Weave, the problem came back. Since the problem occurs when Weave alone is enabled, I do not suspect that it is an interaction with another add-on.

The problem seems to occur in conjunction with the automatic sync, but not with every sync. Here is a portion of the activity log created today with comments added to the areas where FF froze:

2008-07-27 13:26:55	Service.Main	INFO	Skipping scheduled sync; local operation in progress

; System clock showed 1:27 when FF froze. Task Manager showing 50% usage by FF ; on one core.
