When there is no icon for an add-on the AMO API returns just the default icon url for add-ons (https://addons.mozilla.org/img/addon-icn.png). This is what ends up getting used in the client however it is a bit rough around the edges where it could be more transparent so when it is on the blue background of a selection it looks ugly.

Could we get the AMO API to return a platform specific icon based on the user agent? Even though this icon comes from the site, it feels to the user like it is part of the theme.

bug 419287 addresses comment #2 (returning a platform-specific icon).
bug 430318 proposes to replace the non-transparent default icon mentioned in this bug with the new tango extension icon, which would also fix this bug.

This has been fixed by bug 419287. It won't show up in the Add-ons Manager until the next API push.

This was pushed at some point and I just verified that the Add-ons Manager returns the new icon.
