To visually integrate with OS X, I think we should consider turning the status bar off by default. Users coming to Firefox on other platforms who miss the status bar will still be able to turn it on, and users who are at home on OS X are less likely to miss the status bar, since it is not native to their platform. What do people think?
Turning off the status bar makes the resize widget hide the scrollbar down arrow, bug 56488.
What about the URL and lock icon shown for secure websites? Would it be shown somewhere else if the status bar is off by default?
I'm not sure about this to be honest.

In Safari, the progress meter is displayed in the location bar, something that we have decided that we are not going to do (yet at any rate) in Firefox. The padlock is displayed in the top right hand corner in Safari too.
Should this depend on bug 459799 and/or bug 476589?
