Firefox randomly stops retrieving pages.
No pages load even if I open a new tab and enter a website address.
I thought it was the connection but when I started internet explorer, the same page loaded immediately.
When I closed and press save tabs, and restarted Firefox, no tabs are returned and I am left with an empty page.
I then closed and started Firefox again and it loads without the saved tabs.

Confirming in Firefox 3.0 beta 5 on Mac OS X 10.5.2 PPC. => All/All
Increasing severity.
This applies both to loading pages in the content area and loading resources referenced by pages--style sheets in particular.
Severity: major → critical

Ever confirmed: true

Oops. Noting that strictly speaking this bug doesn't match the definition of 'critical' even though the app becomes essentially unusable.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008040303 Minefield/3.0pre
Never had a problem here, except time-outs and some specific sites reported here of course.

We need steps to reproduce or more information for this bug report to be useful... I use trunk builds daily and haven't seen these kinds of problems.
Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; en-GB; rv:1.9) Gecko/2008051202 Firefox/3.0
Same problem on Mac OS X 10.5.2 intel (version string above). Also occured with every ver of Firefox 2 I've used since October (including most recent I tried, 2.0.0.14).
Same description as Henri. Would be happy to try and record any info/log that might be useful, since it happens at least once or twice a day, but would need pointers to how to record logs/traces/etc.

I am running win Vista on a brand new laptop with no viruses etc. I thought it was because of windows firewall at first but I made an exception for firefox and even turned off windows firewall altogether but that didn't help.
I am using avira antivir personal but that shouldn't interfere.
Can you help? I love firefox and dislike IE so I want to keep using firefox!

For Windows users: you could try installing Firefox in a different directory and start it up with a new profile.
You could also try a different DNS server. There are IPs available on the internet.

Does this still happen in a recent version (10.0.6 or 14.0.1)?
Does the problem still happen if you start Firefox in Safe Mode? (Safe Mode disables extensions and themes, hardware acceleration and some JavaScript stuff in order to exclude some possible reasons for problems. It does not disable plugins which are add-ons.) See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode
And does this also happen with a new and empty profile? See http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Basic%20Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile and http://support.mozilla.org/kb/Managing%20profiles .
If you still see this problem in the new profile, please enter the address "about:support" in the address bar and attach (using the "Add an attachment" link above) the output for your original profile (not the new profile), as the "Modified Preferences" section could be interesting.
Thanks for your help!

I've been using Firefox for ages, and I've just recently had this issue.
I'm still connected to the internet 100%, Firefox just stops loading pages for no apparent reason (no error is given, I never crash, and there's no one website that causes it; it's quite random), though everything seems to work fine after a simple restart (of Firefox, though I've tried restarting my PC as well and this doesn't fix the problem from occurring).
I'm using Mozilla Firefox version 17.0.1
OS: Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit (authentic copy)
Wired cable connection through a router (no changes to the router since this issue started).
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @2.40 GHz, 3.5 GB of RAM
Active Addons (all up-to-date): Adblock Plus v2.2.1, AVG Security Toolbar (v13.2.0.5), ColorZilla (v2.8), Live IP Address (v1.83), ShowIP (v1.8.1).
Skin: LavaFox V2-Blue (v2.0.7)
Also, for the record, I know it's not Windows Firewall...
I keep my PC scanned with AVG Free, Spybot Search&Destroy, Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware, junk cleaned with CCleaner, defragged... all of my programs are kept up to date, and I can't even begin to imagine what program could be causing this issue. As I said, it only recently started.
