The 'Next'- icon and 'Follow'- icon in the toolbar and the 'Next'- point and 'Follow'- point in the menue are not highlighted though there are unread mails.

After restart Thunderbird works normally.

That happens when you change the folder view, so that no folder is selected.
To fix it without restarting Thunderbird, select the folder again.
Status: UNCONFIRMED → RESOLVED
