Details

When I view source, select the entire page and paste it into vi, all "<","/>"
and "\n" are missing.

Additionally its not possible to select the first character on the page "<" when
trying to select from the top down.  selecting the last character on the page
and going up does work.

That's because those characters in the view source window are generated content,
and currently not selectable.  Bug 33464 covers this problem.
