User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13) Gecko/20080311 Firefox/2.0.0.13
Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.13pre) Gecko/20080331 Sunbird/0.8
This happened in the first run after updating to sunbird 0.8.
After adding an appointment and editing one of my (other) appointments (adding an alarm) I got a connection error (unluckily I clicked ok to the message) and it wanted to open the calender in offline mode. I clicked ok, but there seemed to be nothing in the calender anymore.
I decided I didn't mind that the one added appointment was gone and wanted to reload the calender. However, it failed with an error message. Restarting and reloading Sunbird still gives the same error message, and the ics-file seems to be corrupted.
The message I get is:
Error Number: ICS_NO_ERROR
Description: [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x804a0100 [calIICSService.parseICS]" nsresult: "0x804a0100 (<unknown>)" location: "JS frame :: file:///C:/Program%20Files/Mozilla%20Sunbird/js/calIcsParser.js :: ip_parseString :: line 58" data: no]
The .ics file now ends with
"BEGIN:VALARM
TRIGGER;VA"
So no END:VALARM and no END:VEVENT or END:VCALENDAR. Adding those show that I lost about the last 1,5 years of my calendar.
Note that I use a ftp connection to access my calender files so that I can access them from work, home, or wherever. However this happens to have happened on my work machine which also hosts the ftp server which contains the calendar files, so it is a local connection (i.e. not broken internet connection).
Reproducible: Couldn't Reproduce

In your Sunbird profile directory there might be a backup of your calendar as .ics file in some subfolder.

Does this still happen with the latest 1.0b2pre nightlies?

I currently run 1.0b1 (already for sometime) and did not experience this behavior anymore. This might mean that the problem is solved or the conditions for the bug to occur to be very rare.
