Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; de; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032620 Firefox/3.0b5 Build Identifier: Version 2.0.0.12 (20080213) When you click on Delete in the "Read message" Window of thunderbird, the window doesnt close and the next message is not displayed. This only happens after the first download of emails upon starting thunderbird. If you restart Thunderbird, and try the same thing with the mails already received in the last run, the window behaves normally. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start Thunderbird, wait for emails to be downloaded. 2.Select the first email, open it, delete it using the Delete Symbol 3.Mail disappears from the Inbox List, yet Window remains open. Actual Results: The Message window remains open and has to be closed manually. Expected Results: The message window closes, the next message in the list is displayed. I repeat: This only happens after the first download of messages after starting Thunderbird. If messages are downloaded, thunderbird is closed down, and restarted, it behaves normally.

It is not designed to close. A change in this design has already been requested.

I am sorry, I think I misrepresented my problem. The window normally should load the next message when the current message is deleted, but under the circumstances described above - it doesnt. The deleted message stays in the window. This is not the same thing as the people who actually want the window to close! My problem is that the next message doesnt load into the window, like it always did.

OK, I changed the summary from "Message Window does not close on deleting message" to "Message Window continues to display deleted message". But when I try it using Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 on Windows XP, your steps 1, 2, 3 do not reproduce the bug. Are you certain that your steps 1, 2, 3 always reproduce the problem in safe-mode (so that no extensions can interfere)?

I can replicate the bug also in safe mode. I am currently using Version 2.0.0.12 (20080213) This is the normal procedure that I use. I start Thunderbird from the Desktop Icon. Thunderbird checks the default mail accounts for new mail. After the mail downloads are completed, I click on the top mail (My mails are sorted according to date, newest on top of the list) I read, click on delete. In the background, I can see the mail disappear from the inbox. Yet the current window displaying the mail remains on the screen. It does not move on to the next mail in the list. Workaround: I start Thunderbird, let it download the mails. I close down Thunderbird, restart it. I select the first mail (just like in the above case) read it, click delete. The next mail in the inbox is displayed. https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=274628 The person who made the last entry (Dave Champagne Comment #31) on that bug comments seems to have the same problem.

I have exactly the same problem in Ubuntu 8.10. This is the bug report I opened in launchpad: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/thunderbird/+bug/325691

Reporter (and others) could you try to see if it still happens with http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-comm-1.9.1/ ? In new beta release you can set ON option "close message window on delete"
