I have recently upgraded to Firefox 3 Beta 5. I am finding that I am very frustrated by a change in behaviour in the location bar. I find myself deleting my location bar contents multiple times per day.

When the location bar is clicked, all text is selected. When this is done on Firefox 2 GTK and Mac, the text is not selected and insertion point appears at the point clicked. On Firefox 3 Mac, all the text is selected and there is no insertion point. So if I click at the end of the line (or in the middle) and start typing, it wipes out the current contents.

Use case:

    * Type something incorrectly into the location bar
    * Realize the mistake after pressing enter
    * Click back into the location bar at the point of error
    * Press any key and the whole URI is erased

Now what is a user to do? Well, if a point in the location bar is double-clicked, then an entire word is select. If triple-clicked, then the whole line is selected. The only way to click to focus the point is to single-click ... wait ... single-click again. My intention when clicking in the location bar is to provide a specific insertion point. If I didn't want to do that, I would double-click, triple-click or press Cmd+L (F6).

Other use cases: missing something on the end of the URI, want to switch the server but not the path, etc.

My apologies if I am using an out-of-date Firefox 3 or simply don't understand how the location bar is supposed to work.
