User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.0; SLCC1; .NET CLR 2.0.50727; Media Center PC 5.0; .NET CLR 3.0.04506) Build Identifier: Firefox 3 beta 5 Went to isohunt.com. Clicked to download a .torrent file which opens my default program utorrent. That part works ok, but then when I go back to browser, no more internet connection. I even tried IE and my email program. Windows no longer sees an internet connection. Must reboot pc to get connection back. Uninstalled firefox 3 beta 5 and all is back to normal. I don't know if it matters but I'm using a router for my internet connection. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open firefox 3 beta 5 2.Browse to any torrent search engine 3.click to download and open a .torrent file 4.default .torrent program opens up and starts downloading 5.Internet connection is permanently lost until reboot
Firefox does not control whether you are connected to the Internet. Windows, your router, and your ISP do. This is very unlikely to be due to a bug in Firefox, even if it only happens when you use Firefox.
I have utorrent and Firefox... This works for me. My guess is your ISP sees that you're using a torrent and blocks your internet traffic OR that utorrent is set to use up all your bandwidth, stopping everything else. Since it's not just Firefox that goes down and Firefox can't control your overall internet connection, marking invalid.

I've decided to try several things to resolve this issue. Here's what I found: 1. Seems to be happening only after utorrent opens. I tried un-installing and re-installing utorrent. Issue persists. Once utorrent has been opened I can no longer access the internet with firefox, internet explorer, windows live mail etc... even after closing utorrent. The only way I get back on the net is to reboot pc. Strange I cannot even contact my router using it's I.P. address in a browser. 2. I figured out a way to get internet working after opening utorrent. Strangely enough, I close firefox and once it's closed I have to go into task manager and end the firefox.exe process which is still running for some reason. Once I did that everything worked fine.

Dumb question: What happens when you just save the torrent file to your desktop and _don't_ have uTorrent open automatically? If that doesn't do anything, then this is not a Firefox issue, and not even an ISP issue, but rather a uTorrent bug. (or something associated with that; UPNP maybe, or possibly a Windows crash)
I've been busy, forgot to mention the problem was unrelated to firefox. I had installed eset's nod32 antivirus at the same time as Firefox 3 beta 5. It appears that nod32 was the program that had issues with utorrent and not firefox. Since removing nod32 I have no more issues. I will close the case, thanks.
