I downloaded and ran Firefox 3 in place of Firefox 2.  The next time I ran Firefox 2 my history list was empty and the prefence to keep history in Firefox 2 was disabled.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run Firefox 2 with setting to keep history for multiple days.
2. Generate multiple days worth of history.
3. Quit Firefox 2.
4. Launch Firefox 3.
5. Generate more history.
6. Quite Firefox 3.
7. Launch Firefox 2.

Actual Results:  
History list was empty.  History preference was changed.

Expected Results:  
History list and preference should not have been clobbered.

you should not use both FX2 and FX3 on the same profile, that is the kind of things that could happen...

can you check in about:config the value for browser.history_expire_days and browser.history_expire_days_min

this is WFM using Firefox/2.0.0.16 ID:2008070205 + Firefox/3.0.1 ID:2008070208 +
Windows NT 5.1.

when you migrate from Fx2 -> Fx3 following prefs are set:
browser.history_expire_days;999 (test value)
browser.history_expire_days.mirror;999 (test value)
browser.history_expire_days_min;90 (default)
browser.history_expire_sites;40000 (default)

when you migrate back from Fx3 -> Fx2 following prefs are kept:

browser.history_expire_days;999
browser.history_expire_days.mirror;999

so the "Fx3 prefs" get erased and there is no problem with loosing history entries and/or chenged prefs.
maybe there was a bugfix for this issue between Fx3 beta 5 and final, nevertheless i recommend closing this as WORKSFORME.

Bug 451915 - move Firefox/Places bugs to Firefox/Bookmarks and History. Remove all bugspam from this move by filtering for the string "places-to-b-and-h".

In Thunderbird 3.0b, you do that as follows:
Tools | Message Filters
Make sure the correct account is selected. Click "New"
Conditions: Body   contains   places-to-b-and-h
Change the action to "Delete Message".
Select "Manually Run" from the dropdown at the top.
Click OK.

Select the filter in the list, make sure "Inbox" is selected at the bottom, and click "Run Now". This should delete all the bugspam. You can then delete the filter.
