User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032619 Firefox/3.0b5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X 10.4; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032619 Firefox/3.0b5 I have a slow Mac. That "rich" drop-down widget steals CPU cycles away from the text widget, causing interference with what I am trying to type! I know which URL to go to. But that drop-down fights me at every keystroke! Please add some way to disable it. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.

You can use https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6227 to get the old style back. I don't think we're going to be adding a way to disable the new querying behaviors.

Alternatively, try setting browser.urlbar.maxRichResults to 0 in about:config .

There is a way, as mentioned in comment 2. The thing that's stealing the CPU time is the search, not the drawing of the widget itself, so restoring the old appearance wouldn't speak to fixing this bug.
