mailto-links produces an error in this firefox version in combination with thunderbird Version 2.0.0.12 (20080213) if thunderbird is opened it mean: thunderbird is running but without reaktion. first close thunderbird or restart your system.
at the same time i run firefox 1.5 and it opend the same link without restarting.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.open thunderbird and firefox 3b5
2.click on a linked e-mailadress
3.get the error message

I can't recreate this behavior. It works for me on the latest nightly build:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9pre) Gecko/2008041606 Minefield/3.0pre and Thunderbird 2.0.0.12.

If you have extensions enabled, be sure to disable them and try again.  Also, check on the preferences menu (Tools->Options, Application Tab) and see what the default hanlder is for "mailto" protocol.  It should be set to "Thunderbird" if you always want mailto links to open in thunderbird.
Reporter, are you still seeing this issue with Firefox 3.6.x or later in safe mode? If not, please close. These links can help you in your testing.
