Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.8.1.14) Gecko/20080404 Firefox/2.0.0.14
After security update 2.0.0.14 (2008040413) installed and rebooted this date, I noticed the download manager no longer lists the files one downloads. This feature worked two days ago, but not today. The files do download successfully.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open web page and view photograph
2. Right-Click on image and select "Save as:"
3. select name and destination. Dnld Mgr. pops up but is blank. File appears in destination folder.
Actual Results:
Download manager stays on screen but no activity appears in window.
Expected Results:
Used to list the files recently downloaded until the cleanup button was pressed.

Do you get this also in the firefox safemode ?

Did you tried using the "Clear up" button is is that button grey ?

William, also try moving away (to a different directory) your downloads.rdf file (but don't delete it, please). A new one will be auto-regenerated (this should get it working, if it's RDF corruption).

20080423 - Tried recommendation of relocating "downloads.rdf" file but could not find this file anywhere on my computer. Could this be the issue? Also, Matthias suggested using clean-up button, but this button is non-functional.

20080423 Also tried safe mode with same results. File is saved even though there is no activity in the download manager window (which "pops up" by itself)

The file should be in your profile folder:

I cannot find "downloads.rdf" anywhere on the computer. I will try to uninstall and reinstall firefox when I am sure I have needed shortcuts saved.

Follow my link in comment #5 and there should be the path.
Windows doesn't list files in hidden folders, that's the reason why i added the URL.
Reinstalling doesn't help with anything because the profile will not be deleted.

This date I found, renamed and moved the "downloads.rdf" file from the profile folder with no success. I re-started firefox and then tried the simple task of saving a picture from a web page and the download box opened but there was no dialog. The file did save in the directory I expected. Perhaps I should remove the *.rdf file, then reboot the computer?

I think you have set Firefox to store the file without asking.
You can set this in the options.

matti,
I do not have any option to "store without asking". i have the box checked to "always ask where to store" and "show the download window". The bug still exists.
If they wish to close this bug report, they may do so, I can survive with firefox the way it is. Thank you everyone for your assistance!

Can you change the setting in the options to "save file always to [Desktop]", click ok, reopen the options and change it back to always ask ?

I have just experienced exactly the same bug on 2.0.0.14. Files were downloaded, but download manager window is empty. Safe mode and Clear up button did not help.
The problem was is that downloads.rdf became empty due to power failure.
I have replaced it with empty rdf file "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\profile\localstore.rdf", and now my download manager is working.
There should be some fix so that Firefox can handle such kinds of errors. Files going empty is very common issue on NTFS when power failures occur, or computer crashes.

I confirm the same behavior. Downloaded files are not any more in the download manager screen.
