Scrolling on the new mozilla.com main page under Linux seems to invoke some
Linux bad scrolling performance bug.
This either needs to be fixed before the release or the page needs to be redesigned to avoid the issue.
Highlighting a browser issue on the www.mozilla.com homepage does not seem to be a good idea.
I also filed bug 430358 against the new website.

I should elaborate that it is not just that it is slow, it is that it is jerky and you get artifacts of different sections of the page appearing multiple times while you are waiting for it to finish scrolling.

I am adding the regression keyword as the site displays and scrolls just fine using Firefox 2.

Testing this with a similar setup, I noticed some performance impact scrolling past some of the background images - the ones on the "Thunderbird", "Mozilla Store" and "We're Hiring" sections to the right of the page. This doesn't seem to have a large impact, though - unlike bug 244862
I put this graphic on a reduced testcase (attached) and got the same effect. Reporter: could you verify that you see the same slowness when scrolling past the first image block on that page?
For access to the image in this testcase, and to the bug url, see John Slater's blog post: http://www.intothefuzz.com/2008/04/18/anyone-interested-in-beta-testing-the-new-mozillacom/

This testcase does not scroll anywhere near as slowly as the new homepage does, but it does show the same effect of the images seeming to flash multiple times at fixed locations while i am scrolling rather than scrolling smoothly with the rest of the page. I think that is what causes the overall scrolling performance issue I am seeing.
I was discussing this on IRC last night and others did not seem to be seeing as much of an issue as I was with scrolling on this site.

Interestingly, I see MORE of an issue on the new www.mozilla.com homepage than on the page reported in bug 244862.

If we can narrow this down to a specific problem, we might block the release for that (if it was something serious), but I can't say that this one bug would hold the entire release at this point.

Bug 244862 is now in graveyard. So, is this bug still valid or does it go to graveyard also?

I don't think there is anything actionable here any more. If this is still a serious problem, please re-open.
