In todays build (and I also experienced it before) the text below the "--"
seeems to get shown without the newlines.
It only happens in certain messages, but please try to verify it in fx the
posting:
Re: [OT] Netscape Marketing and decision making process
by Jerry Baker in the netscape.public.mozilla.general newsgroup.

Build 2000061908
Just making sure...but is this an HTML sig or plain text sig and what is the
compose window? (html/plain)

It's when reading fx posting made in plain text.
Direct URL to message that gets shown diffently in Mozilla and in Netscape
4.73:
<URL:news://news.mozilla.org/394E871C.A14D1876%40weirdness.com>

In Mozilla the text below the "--" text has no newlines and in Netscape the text
below the "--" shows just fine with newslines.
Could it has something to do with UNIX newlines vs MSDOS newlines?
The error in the newsposting is weird.
It's a plain text posting, and the newslines before the signature shows fine
but after the "--" it screwes up.
I think this seems to be working for me.

Nope, not for me. I'm still not getting any newlines shown. Did you check the
article?

Ben, something you know anything about?
This could be related to bug 45791
Looking at the source of the page after clicking the link given by Henrik Gemal
above I might now what's breaking. The article is surrounded by a <pre>...</pre>
and inside that <pre>, the sig is surrounded by a <div class="txt-sig"> which 1)
breaks the <pre> or 2) has some strange kind of CSS attached to it.

Is <div> a legal child of <pre>?

But I really dont understand why Mozilla puts all this CSS, div, etc... stuff
into the news posting, when the news posting is plain text. Check out the source
with Netscape 4.74 and there is *no* html, css, etc....
It's a implementation detail. The plain text message is internally transformed
to HTML to be displayed by the layout engine. That HTML should never be seen by
the user but I guess there is a bug when viewing a message in the normal browser
window. If you look at the "source" in the normal mailnews windows you will see
the original raw message as you want. If that bug isn't in bugzilla yet, you're
welcome to increase your bug count. :-)
