User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032620 Firefox/3.0b5 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9b5) Gecko/2008032620 Firefox/3.0b5 This has happened on a number of occasions. After exiting the firefox app (generally clicking the "X" as opposed to file/exit), the process remains "active" (hung) in the system and does not close correctly. the process then has to be killed manually. It is possible this is related to (1) extension: download statusbar and/or (2) antivirus plugin from AVG (8.0). Possibly a combination of the two( (1) automatically calls (2) when a file is downloaded) Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1.Open and use firefox 2.close firefox 3.check task mgr (after sufficient time) for existence firefox process ~~~~ possibly: 1a. (with download statusbar installed) download file to desktop 1b. allow virus scan to complete

This is happening to me as well, very occasionally l shut down firefox and the process remains, usually sticking to 170isg meg of ram (doesnt use more doesnt use less) regardless of trying to start new browser sessions, l just get a message telling me to either end the process or restart, the common denominator between myself and jeff is that l have both download status bar and AVG addons installed.. however l believe the AVG one can be ruled out as its been happening to me much longer than lve had AVG. this happens on the latest versions of firefox since V3 as far as l remember, although l believe a possibility to the problem is usage before it happens, l find when l do some hardcore browsing opening a couple of 100 tabs downloading and passing allot of data within 1 session and downloading allot of files seems to increase the possibility the process will stick.
This happens to me all the time. I'm using Windows XP Pro Version 2002 SP2. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.0.4) Gecko/2008102920 Firefox/3.0.4 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729) Extensions: ChatZilla CustomizeGoogle Firebug Forecastbar Enhanced Google Toolbar Google Preview IE Tab Java Quick Starter McAfee SiteAdvisor Microsoft .NET Framework Assistant PDF Download Tab Mix Plus Ubiquity Update Notifier I'm also attatching two pictures to this bug. Note how the firefox process appears twice in the Task Manager screen shot. And also notice in the firefox screenshot then when I open firefox when the process is still running from the last time I close it, the homepage does not load, the address bar does not load an address, and it does not load my history or my book marks. Also note that if I perform a search from the google toolbar that as browse the web firefox refuses to fill in the address bar or the history.
Another thing I have noticed is that when this happens and I close Firefox from the Task Manager, I seem to loose some of my Google Toolbar preferences.

No reply, INCOMPLETE. Please retest with Firefox 3.6.8 or later and a new profile (http://support.mozilla.com/kb/Managing+profiles). If you continue to see this issue with the newest firefox and a new profile, then please comment on this bug.
