432850 - Thunderbird should detect lack of Netscape Communicator 4.x profiles earlier in the import wizard

Description

Occurred on 10.4 Tiger, while testing Shredder Alpha 1 build 1, with build ID version 3.0a1 (2008050714).

1: Go to Tools -> Import.
2: Select Mail and click next.

"Communicator 4" shouldn't be there since the importers for NS 4 have been ripped out.

Side effect is that if Communicator 4 is selected and I click "next", a message saying "An error occurred importing mail from Communicator 4.x" and "Unable to find mail to import. Check to make sure the mail application is correctly installed on this machine." without the dialog box ever appearing to select files.

Thus, at this screen the "Back" button doesn't work and I can only click "Finish" to get out of the wizard.

Not sure if this affects Intel Macs though.

Actually I'm not sure if the import capability was ripped out, I think it was just the ability to upgrade/update a 4.x profile to current version.

Actually this is invalid, import of Communicator 4 profiles should still be in the tree. Therefore the application is doing what we expect - its erroring out because we know where the profiles are for 4.x and Gary's machine hasn't got a 4.x profile on it. There's no dialog box to select files here.

So I think the issue becomes the appearance of the error message. Since the NS 4.x importers are supposed to "still work", changing summary to reflect that NS 4 profile detection should occur earlier in the migration wizard instead of giving that error message.

It is notable that the "Back" button which is selectable post clicking import of Communicator 4.x mail, does nothing.

I can confirm the Back button doesn't do anything. (And nothing in the error console.)

xref bug 379068 (which dropped migration).

With landing of bug 608638 this is WONTFIX.
